Don in £80m warning to Wolves on Raul Jimenez

Don Goodman has urged Wolves to snap up Raul Jimenez as soon as possible – or risk having to splash out up to £80m to replace him. The Mexican forward took his tally to 14 goals this season in the 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Sunday, joining Steven Fletcher as Wolves’ record scorer in a Premier League season with 12, with eight games still to go. Jimenez, 27, has been hugely impressive in his season-long loan from Benfica and is thought to be available for £35m in the summer when his temporary stay expires. That figure would almost double Wolves’…

Neville: Wolves ‘lacked ambition’ to beat Chelsea

Phil Neville believes Wolves should have gone for more goals at Chelsea – because he reckons they’re good enough to rattle the top six. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge after Raul Jimenez’s 56th-minute opener was cancelled out by Eden Hazard in the second minute of time added on. Wolves had just two attempts, one on target, while Chelsea had 22 efforts, of which six were at goal. Neville, the former Manchester United utility man and now England womens’ coach, reckons Wolves should have gambled by taking the game to Chelsea more.…

Shearer defends Wolves and slates Sarri

Alan Shearer has again defended Wolves, this time savaging Chelsea boss Mauricio Sarri’s criticism of Nuno Espirito Santo’ side for ‘not wanting to play’. Wolves drew 1-1 at Stamford Bridge thanks to Raul Jimenez’s goal which was their only on-target effort and one of only two attempts for the visitors all match. In contrast Chelsea had 76 per cent possession and 22 efforts, of which six were on target, including Eden Hazard’s last-gasp equaliser. Sarri said: “We had to play against a team that didn’t want to play. They stayed in the last 35 metres of the pitch. “They defended…

Hazard denies Wolves victory at the death

Chelsea 1 Wolves 1 Wolves were denied a rare double over Chelsea and a first victory at Stamford Bridge in 40 years after Eden Hazard equalised in time added on. Raul Jimenez gave Nuno Espirito Santo’s side a 56th-minute lead with the visitors’ only shot on target and it looked like being enough, only for the Belgian to drive Chelsea level at the death. In truth it was a fair result with Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio denying Gonzalo Higuain and Pedro after Wolves had taken the lead. The result kept Wolves in seventh place on 44 points – already a…

Ennis strikes at the double as Wolves regain top spot

Wolves Under-23s 3 Southampton Under-23s 1. Two goals from Niall Ennis helped Wolves Under-23s return to the top of Premier League 2 after winning their top-of-the-table clash against Southampton at Molineux. The 19-year-old striker, born little over a month before Steve Bull retired, struck in the ninth minute and 61st as Rob Edwards’s side went a point clear of their opponents. His brace sandwiched Austin Samuels’s effort in first-half time added on following Alfie Jones’s 24th minute equaliser. The only downside was Samuels’s early exit on the hour with what was later confirmed as a sprain to his right shoulder. Southampton…

Nuno praises his Wolves players and fans after making their point at Chelsea

Nuno Espirito Santo praised Wolves’ players and fans after the 1-1 draw at Chelsea – and warned the hosts they will be stronger next time. Wolves were denied the double over Mauricio Sarri’s side and a first win at Stamford Bridge in 40 years after Eden Hazard’s 92nd-minute equaliser cancelled out Raul Jimenez’s 56th-minute opener. Prompted by them hearing The Liquidator for the first time at a ground where Wolves were playing in seven years, the 3,000 visiting supporters were in full voice throughout and head coach Nuno was especially appreciative. “I was really proud of the way the boys…

Nuno: MGW and Hudson-Odoi are part of England’s next golden generation

Nuno Espirito Santo believes Wolves teen star Morgan Gibbs-White and Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi are part of potentially one of the best England teams. Gibbs-White and Hudson-Odoi will be on opposing sides at Stamford Bridge having been in the starting XI when England won the Under-17s World Cup in 2017. Nuno is a huge admirer of 19-year-old Gibbs-White, having given him 41 of his 53 appearances to date after he made his debut under Paul Lambert at just 16. Hudson-Odoi is still 18 and has made 27 appearances for Chelsea. He lodged a transfer request in January when Bayern Munich bid…

JR: Wolves’ FA Cup defeat to United still hurts after all these years

Wolves legend John Richards is still rankled when he recalls FA Cup encounters against Manchester United. Richards is keen for his old club to erase the memories of the Cup exit against United at the same quarter-final stage in 1976 when they take on the resurgent Red Devils on Saturday night. The legendary goalscorer won three of his four sixth-round ties at Wolves, but the United one was the only time he finished on the losing side. Richards scored in four quarter-finals including replays, with strikes in both United games. But the United defeat still irritates him because they went…

JR: ‘This is Wolves’ best ever chance of winning the FA Cup’

John Richards believes Wolves might never get a better chance of FA Cup glory as they prepare to face Manchester United. The legendary Molineux goal king is also urging Wolves to give the fans the Wembley dream they want – and help heal some hurt he still feels. Wolves look to have the best opportunity to get to Wembley in a cup in decades, with United in the sixth round on Saturday night standing between them and a first semi-final in the competition since 1998. Richards played in four FA Cup quarter-finals for the club, winning three, all after replays,…

Wolves boss Nuno: Now let’s help Costa like we did Traore

Nuno Espirito Santo insists he will not ‘abandon’ Helder Costa as he pledged to help him return to form like he has with Adama Traore. Traore, 23, made a surprise return for only his seventh Premier League start in the recent 2-0 win against Cardiff, replacing Matt Doherty at right wing back as Nuno sprang five changes following the 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield. Against the Bluebirds the £18m club record signing had arguably his best game for Wolves to date. Now Nuno has revealed how he is hoping a similar approach can work with the out-of-sorts Costa. The 25-year-old started…
