Gibbs-White back for Wolves – but Jota faces further scan

Morgan Gibbs-White has returned to full training with Wolves – but Diogo Jota will miss Saturday’s visit of Newcastle. Gibbs-White has missed the last 17 games with a back injury that has kept him out since October 24 against Slovan Bratislava. But the 19-year-old midfielder is fit and available, possibly to be involved at the weekend. “The good thing is Morgan is back. He’s already integrated into the training sessions so that’s good,” said head coach Nuno Espirito Santo. Jota missed the 0-0 draw against Manchester United in the FA Cup after suffering a ‘strong impact’ on his leg after…

Wolves’ pursuit of Hwang Hee-Chan on hold for now

Wolves’ pursuit of Hwang Hee-Chan looks to be on hold – after Red Bull Salzburg said they will not sell until the summer. Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to bolster his attack with the £19m-rated forward after being linked with a move with the South Korean for several weeks. But Wolves will have to play a waiting game because the Austrian club are not prepared to lose any more attackers until the summer. Salzburg have already sold Erling Braut Haaland to Borussia Dortmund for around £18m this month, while Takumi Minamino has joined Liverpool after they activated his £7.25m release…

Cutrone back at Wolves for now – but he could still join Fiorentina

Patrick Cutrone is back in training with Wolves as his on-off move to Fiorentina rumbles on – but Nuno Espirito Santo does NOT need to bring a replacement in first. The Serie A outfit are keen to sign the 22-year-old striker but failure to reach agreement on the overall package of the transfer so far is believed to have delayed negotiations. With no early end in sight, Wolves have recalled Cutrone so he can stay fit and sharp, and he returned to England on Tuesday night. He is now back in training at Compton. The Serie A club are believed…

Cutrone back training with Wolves after transfer ‘collapse’

Patrick Cutrone is back in training with Wolves after the collapse of his transfer to Italy. Fiorentina have been heavily linked with the 22-year-old striker but failure to reach agreement on a fee is believed to have scuppered the deal for the time being. Cutrone returned to England on Tuesday night and is back in training with Wolves after leaving on Saturday, before the Manchester United FA Cup third round tie. The Serie A club are believed to have offered a loan fee of around £1.7m with another £13.7m due in the summer to make it a permanent signing. But…

How Wolves legend Bully could have joined Manchester United

By Dave Harrison Ever thought what might have happened if Steve Bull had not joined Wolves and scored those club record 306 goals? It is quite conceivable that the club would have drifted into oblivion if Bully had not arrived to spearhead the climb from rock bottom to something approaching respectability. Well that nearly didn’t happen and wouldn’t have happened if Ron Atkinson had heeded the advice of his personal accountant back in the early 1980s. Big Ron retold the tale of what might have been when we were together at a sporting lunch in Birmingham when Bully was also…

Wolves still waiting to reach agreement over Cutrone exit

Wolves are still waiting to reach agreement for the exit of striker Patrick Cutrone, who remains in Italy waiting for his transfer to go through. Reports in Italy say negotiations with Fiorentina have slowed down due to Wolves’ demands regarding payment methods and timing. Wolves want to at least recoup the initial £16m they paid AC Milan in the summer, while it’s claimed Fiorentina are prepared to offer a loan fee of around £1.7m for the rest of the season followed by a permanent fee of £13.7m. But Wolves are also keen to land a quality replacement, having focused their…

Wolves bank club record £15m fee for the sale of Cavaleiro to Fulham

Wolves have banked a club record sale of £15m after Fulham decided to turn Ivan Cavaleiro’s loan into a permanent move. Cavaleiro was due to be at the Championship club all season with a view to a permanent move in the summer, but the West London outfit have decided to trigger the option six months early. The 26-year-old Portugal international has now agreed a four-and-a-half year contract to 2024, with the Cottagers having a further 12-month option in their favour. Cavaleiro has been an integral part of the Fulham team in the first half of the season, scoring five goals…

Ruddy hell! John admits it’s ‘not nice’ being Wolves’ back-up ‘keeper

John Ruddy has revealed his frustration at being Wolves back-up goalkeeper. The 33-year-old came in for only his fifth outing of the season in Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie against Manchester United and kept a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw – his third shutout of the season. The stalemate at least means Ruddy is almost guaranteed another game in the replay at Old Trafford a week on Tuesday. But he is resigned to losing his place to first choice Ruo Patricio for Saturday’s return to Premier League action for the visit of Newcastle. Former Norwich shotstopper Ruddy, who…

Wolves to face Watford or Tranmere away if they can win Man United replay

Wolves will face a trip to the winners of Watford and Tranmere in the fourth round of the FA Cup – if they win their replay away to Manchester United. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were part of the first pairing out of the draw, and if they overcome United at Old Trafford, face a tricky tie whoever wins the other replay, after Micky Mellon’s League One side came from 3-0 down to rescue a 3-3 draw at Vicarage Road. If it’s Watford, Wolves have an early chance of Cup revenge after last season’s 3-2 extra-time semi-final defeat at Wembley. They…

Nuno: Give Wolves youngster time to Seal his place

Nuno Espirito Santo admits young Wolves striker Benny Ashley-Seal needs time to reach his full potential. The 20-year-old forward made his full debut in Saturday’s 0-0 FA Cup third round draw against Manchester United, leading the line in place of Raul Jimenez and in the absence of the soon-to-depart Patrick Cutrone. Ashley-Seal was replaced at half-time after a mixed 45 minutes in which he tested United’s experienced central defenders Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. “It was good, Benny did well. He started the game well, a couple of runs gave a bit of trouble to Maguire and Lindelof and after…
