Wolves to depart for Marbella training camp after Brighton

Wolves will depart for a mini break to Marbella straight after Sunday’s clash at Brighton. Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad will be in southern Spain for a three-day training camp before returning for Thursday’s final Europa League group game at home to Besiktas. Wolves used the venue twice last season, in April after the 2-0 defeat at Southampton and following their FA Cup fourth round replay with Shrewsbury Town in February. After losing to Saints, Wolves returned refreshed from their break to draw at home to Brighton before beating Arsenal, Watford and Fulham. They also went to the same Spain camp…

Brighton boss Potter is a fan of Wolves

Brighton manager Graham Potter believes Sunday’s opponents Wolves are a solid team who he has been really impressed with. Wolves go to the AMEX seeking to extend their unbeaten run to 11 games, a feat they have not achieved in the top flight since September 1962. Solihull-born Potter, 44, also believes head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has done an excellent job after leading Wolves to seventh in their first season back in the Premier League and to fifth in the table before the weekend. “They are really, really good and really effective,” said the former Albion, Birmingham and Stoke left…

Wolves great Mike Bailey sure to get a warm welcome at the AMEX

All being well, a man who deserves to be revered by fans of both Brighton and Hove Albion and Wolves will attend the teams’ Premier League clash at the Amex this Sunday, courtesy of the Brighton matchday programme. By Nick Szczepanik Mike Bailey was a dynamic midfield player who played for England and captained Wolves for over a decade, hoisting the League Cup in 1974. As a manager, he led Brighton to the best league finish in their history, 13th in 1981-82. And on September 22 1981 the team reached fifth place, their highest-ever league placing – ironically after a…

Nuno: How Wolves will celebrate any awards and why I have a small squad

Nuno Espirito Santo insists any awards won by him and his multi-nominated players are for the team – as he revealed why he keeps a small squad. The Portuguese has again been nominated for the Premier League’s manager of the month award, while 15-goal top scorer Raul Jimenez is in the running for player of the month, and midfielders Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho are up for goal of the month category. The nominations come after a memorable month in which Wolves stretched their unbeaten run in the Premier League and Europa League, going fifth in the former and reaching…

The tie has been selected for live broadcast on BT Sport 1, kicking off at 5.31pm. All FA Cup third round ties will be delayed by one minute to help promote mental health. The FA, in partnership with the Heads Up campaign and the National Health…

Ryan Bennett is ready for a Wolves recall – Nuno

Ryan Bennett is ready for a Wolves recall again after rediscovering his top form, according to Nuno Espirito Santo. The 29-year-old centre back appeared as a late substitute in Wednesday’s 2-0 win against West Ham and is vying for a start in Sunday’s trip to Brighton after recovering from a back injury. Bennett has only started three of the last 16 games in all competitions, largely because of a back injury that forced him off early on in the 1-1 draw at home to Southampton. His only two other starts in that spell have been in the Carabao Cup. Head…

Nuno suggests key month will decide Vallejo’s Wolves future

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo believes December could decide Jesus Vallejo’s fate over whether he remains at Molineux. Centre back Vallejo, 22, is on a season-long loan from Real Madrid but has struggled to adapt to the Premier League and has only had limited game time. Despite injuries to established central defenders Willy Boly and Ryan Bennett, the Spain Under-21 captain has made just two appearances in the top flight, and none since October 19. He has made five other appearances, but has not appeared since the 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat at Aston Villa on October 30 seven games ago.…

Traore needs to add more goals to his game – Wolves boss Nuno

Adama Traore has been urged to add more goals to his game as Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo insists the winger’s transformation shows what can be achieved by keeping faith with players. Traore, 23, has gone from one goal and three assists in 36 games last season to netting three and nine assists in 24 games this term. But Nuno, speaking in the countdown to Sunday’s clash at Brighton, wants more from the Spaniard, who cost £18m from Middlesbrough in August 2018. “There is still a lot of things for Adama to do to improve – goals,” said head coach…

Nuno urges Wolves to make history and join the greats

Nuno Espirito Santo is urging Wolves to make history and join club greats by avoiding defeat at Brighton on Sunday. Wolves are aiming to make it 11 games unbeaten in the league to equal their longest unbeaten run in the top flight since September 1962. Stan Cullis’s side topped the League at the time after a storming start to the season that brought eight wins and three draws, with favourites such as Bobby Thomson, Ron Flowers, Terry Wharton, Ted Farmer and Jimmy Murray. That team eventually finished fifth, but it’s a record the club has only equalled once (1972-73) in…

Nuno has a positive update on Wolves defender Willy Boly

Wolves defender Willy Boly is improving but Nuno Espirito Santo says there is no timeframe for his return. The 28-year-old centre back underwent a successful operation to repair his broken ankle in the days after suffering the injury in training before the Newcastle game on October 27. Boly is continuing in his rehabilitation at Compton every day and head coach Nuno says his break is healing. He is expected to be out until some time in the new year. “He’s here every day. He’s improving and he’s already walking with only one crutch to support himself,” said Nuno. “It’s a…
