Doc hoping it’s a case of knee-sy does it for Wolves

Matt Doherty is hoping a recurrence of his knee problem doesn’t keep him out of contention for Wolves. The Ireland international was forced off in the 71st minute after suffering discomfort in the same joint that has caused him problems since sustaining the injury in pre-season. Doherty, Wolves’ longest serving player, was replaced by Ruben Vinagre in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Emirates, but is hoping to be available for Thursday’s Europa League encounter at home to Slovan Bratislava. “It was my right knee, I just fell on it and I just had that strong deflection,” said the 27-year-old. “The…

Boss Nuno urges Wolves to strike the first blow

Nuno Espirito Santo wants Wolves to start striking the first blow so they can dictate games more. Wolves retrieved a deficit to draw 1-1 for the sixth time in the Premier League this season with Saturday’s stalemate at Arsenal, while 86 per cent of their goals have come in the second half of games. Head coach Nuno is delighted with his team’s character in coming back to claim points so often, but he wants them to take the game to the opposition more from the start. “The way we fought back was good, it’s fantastic, but we must change the…

Jimenez looking to challenge top marksmen in the Premier League to fire Wolves

Mexican sensation Raul Jimenez wants to leave his Premier League rival marksmen trailing in his wake as he looks to fire Wolves on two fronts. The £32.6m club record signing took his tally to 11 goals this season and only two Premier League players – Manchester City pair Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero with 13 each – have netted more this season. Jimenez, who has scored four times in the Premier League and seven times in the Europa League, could have had more too after having two efforts chalked off by VAR in the 1-1 draw against Southampton. “I’m very…

Pulis reveals Wolves flier Traore still keeps in touch with him

Tony Pulis has revealed how Wolves flier Adama Traore still keeps in touch with him. Pulis sold Traore to Wolves for £18m in August 2018 when he was Middlesbrough manager. The former Albion boss was sacked at the Riverside at the end of last season after failing to guide Boro into the play-offs. But the 61-year-old has maintained a relationship with Traore, who was his standout player in his 71 games on Teesside from 2016, where he moved for £7m after a year at Villa. “When I went to Middlesbrough this kid wasn’t being played,” said Pulis, who is currently…

Neves confident Wolves will shake off draw tag and regain winning mentality

Ruben Neves insists Wolves will rediscover their winning mentality. Wolves’ 1-1 draw at Arsenal was their seventh stalemate in the Premier League this season, and their third such scoreline in their last four away games in the league after drawing at Crystal Palace and Newcastle sandwiching the 2-0 win at Manchester City. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have drawn more games than any other team in the top flight so far, with their tally of seven comfortably ahead of Arsenal and Watford with five each. Neves, who made his 100th appearance for the club at the Emirates, is confident they will…
