Wolves to sign Bayern Munich prospect Shabani

Wolves are set to announce the signing of Bayern Munich youngster Meritan Shabani as they continue to spread their net wide for emerging talent.
The versatile 20-year-old midfielder has agreed a permanent deal to sign before today’s 5pm transfer deadline and will undergo a medical today before joining the Under-23s.
Shabani, who can play as an attacking midfielder, on the wing or as a second striker, has made three senior appearances for Bayern. But he has been a regular scorer in their Under-19s, with six goals in 24 appearances, with all but two of those games last season. Halfway through a two-year contract, he has spent 13 years at the Allianz Arena after joining Bayern at the age of seven.
He will join defender Raphael Nya from France, British-Chinese midfielder Hong Wan and Portuguese midfielder Flavio Cristovao to bolster the Under-23s this summer. Another, Azerbaijan international Renat Dadashov, has been immediately loaned out to Portuguese outfit Pacos de Ferreira for the season.
Born in Munich of Kosovo-Albanian parents, Shabani made his Bundesliga debut in a 4-1 home win against Eintracht Frankfurt on April 28 2018. He was one of three teenagers handed their debuts as head coach Jupp Heynckes rested senior players before their Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid. He was substituted in the 56th minute for Thiago, but had already covered five miles running during the match.
His only appearances for Bayern’s first team last season were as a late substitute for Franck Ribery in a 2-1 win at SV Rodinghausen in the German Cup in October and in a 3-0 Bundesliga victory at Eintracht Frankfurt again off the bench, this time for Robert Lewandowski.
Shabani spent much of his late teens playing on the wing but started last season as a second striker, playing in the number 10 role in a 1-0 UEFA Youth League victory over Anderlecht in September. In January, Shabani played the second half of Bayern’s 5-3 friendly victory over Großaspach, playing central attacking midfield alongside Ribery and Manuel Friedl.
He also started five of Bayern’s seven UEFA Youth League games and scored a stunner in the 3-1 group stage victory over Paris Saint-Germain in December, firing a home a thunderous shot from a tight angle.
