Nuno wants two more signings for Wolves

Nuno Espirito Santo says he still wants to add two signings to Wolves’ squad before the transfer window shuts on August 8. One of those will be Patrick Cutrone, whose £16m move from AC Milan has been agreed and the striker is due to undergo a medical on Tuesday. The other is believed to be Benfica defender Ruben Dias, who has a £57m release clause in his contract. Manchester United are reported to have had an opening bid for Dias turned down by the Portuguese giants, who don’t need to sell after raking in around £180m this summer. “We feel…

Cutrone ‘ready and excited’ to join Wolves after £16m deal sealed

Patrick Cutrone says he is ‘ready and excited’ to be joining Wolves as he prepares to be unveiled as the club’s second new summer signing. The 21-year-old striker flew to England on Monday and will undergo a medical on Tuesday before joining his new team-mates after Wolves agreed a fee of £16m plus add-ons with AC Milan. Cutrone has agreed a four-year contract to become Wolves’ first permanent capture of the summer, and he will be the first Italian to play for Wolves in the club’s 142-year history. He follows on-loan Real Madrid centre back Jesus Vallejo as the club’s…

Vallejo signs – and could become a Real Wolves player

Wolves have announced their first new summer signing in the season-long loan of Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo – and the deal could become permanent. The 22-year-old centre back has agreed his third loan spell away from the Bernabeu after spells at Real Zaragoza and Eintracht Frankfurt. But unlike those stints, this one could become a far lengthier one as the arrangement is similar to the one that saw Jonny Castro Otto sign on a permanent basis from Atletico Madrid for £18m in January. There is no suggestion at this stage what the fee could be because at the moment,…

Vallejo to undergo medical at Wolves today

Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo is set to undergo a medical today with a view to joining Wolves. The clubs have agreed a season-long loan for the 22-year-old. If all goes well, he is expected to be announced as Wolves’ first new summer signing tomorrow. The Spain Under-21 captain will then be in line to make his debut in next Thursday’s Europa League second qualifying round second leg tie at Crusaders in Belfast. Vallejo arrived yesterday for talks over a move to Molineux and was in the stands for the 2-0 first leg win over Crusaders, meeting his prospective team-mates…

Mutch: Sammy was like a father figure to Wolves players

Andy Mutch has paid tribute to Sammy Chapman, calling him a ‘father figure’ to Wolves players at the time.   Chapman died peacefully at his home in Wombourne on Wednesday at the age of 81. Mutch, 55, was the stand-out signing made by Chapman in the darkest days in Wolves’ long and proud history. The Liverpudlian striker was playing for non-league Southport when the then manager of Wolves signed him for £5,000 in February 1986.   Mutch quickly set about repaying the modest fee, scoring seven goals in his first 15 games to the end of that season to…

Tributes paid to former Wolves manager Sammy Chapman

Tributes are being paid to former Wolves manager Sammy Chapman, who has sadly died. The Northern Irishman passed away peacefully at his home in Wombourne, near Wolverhampton, on Wednesday, aged 81. Mr Chapman had suffered ill health in the last few years, but remained in good spirits. He and his family have a unique connection with Wolves in that he managed the club twice, after being promoted from chief scout, and both his sons, Campbell and Cavan, played for the club. Mr Chapman is survived by wife Jeannie and sons Campbell, 56, who is based in Atlanta, Georgia, and Cavan,…

Wolves star Neves sent to hospital after injury; Bright on the move

Ruben Neves has been sent to hospital to be assessed after being injured in Wolves’ 2-0 win against Crusaders. The 22-year-old midfielder was caught by a blow to the side and walked off in some discomfort when he was replaced by Raul Jimenez after 58 minutes of the Europa League second qualifying round tie. He has gone to hospital as a precaution. Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo said: “He is struggling. Let’s see. It was a hard knock and he’s in pain now. We will take care of him. It was his side.” Neves has been a virtual ever present…

Nuno relieved after Vinagre’s late goal eases pressure on Wolves

Relieved Nuno Espirito Santo admitted Wolves’ second goal at the death could make all the difference next week against Crusaders. Ruben Vinagre’s strike to punish Sean O’Neill’s goalkeeping howler gave dominant Wolves a 2-0 first leg win to take to Belfast for the concluding Europa League second qualifying tie next Thursday. Diogo Jota had taken Mel Eves’s near-40-year record of being the club’s last scorer in European competition with a volley in the 37th minute. “It makes a difference, there’s no doubt about it, for the second leg,” said the head coach about Vinagre’s strike. “But we have to look…

Real Madrid defender set to sign for Wolves – and AC Milan’s Cutrone close

Wolves are set to sign Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo on a season-long loan – and are closing in on a deal for AC Milan srtiker Patrick Cutrone. The 22-year-old Vallejo is due to arrive today for talks over a move to Molineux and be in the stands for tonight’s Europa League second qualifying round tie at home to Crusaders. Vallejo, who has been capped 22 times by Spain at Under-21 level and is known by Molineux men Jonny Castro Otto and Rafa Mir, came through the ranks at Real Zaragoza and joined Madrid four years ago for around £5m…

Five-year deal for Vinagre is a real boost to Wolves

Wolves have been boosted by the news that hot prospect Ruben Vinagre has signed a new deal until 2024. The 20-year-old left wing-back, who signed permanently for £2m from Monaco a year ago after a season-long loan spell, has penned a five-year contract. The news is something of a coup for the club with the Portugal Under-20 international linked to moves to Liverpool and Barcelona in recent months. Vinagre has impressed during his two years at Molineux and looks set to catch the eye during the 2019-20 campaign after an pre-season. He is set for a first-team start against Crusaders…
