Ex-Wolves defender Hause ‘flatters to deceive’ – Bent

Former Wolves defender Kortney Hause has come under fire from ex-Villa striker Darren Bent, who claims he ‘flatters to deceive’.
The 23-year-old recently left Wolves in a £3m move to Villa after he spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park. Hause is one of four players allowed to leave Molineux by head coach Nuno Espirito Santo this summer along with Helder Costa, Ivan Cavaleiro and Ethan Ebanks-Landell, and did not play in the top flight under the Portuguese manager last season.
Bent played against Hause twice in the Championship, for Derby and for Brighton on loan, and was not impressed. The former England, Spurs and Sunderland forward appeared as an 89th-minute substitute for Derby in a 4-2 win over Wolves in October 2015 after scoring in a 1-1 draw for Brighton at Molineux a year earlier when on loan from Villa, and says Hause has a point to prove now.
Bent told The Football Insider: “I played against him a couple of times when he was at Wolves and he’s got the big physical presence but he always flatters to deceive, for me. When I watched him for Wolves he’s got all the physical attributes, is good on the ball but sometimes he’d make a mistake, a lapse in concentration.
“You think he’s brilliant for 70 minutes and he’s gone and done this. He’s got a point to prove and maybe again the Premier League with Aston Villa might suit him. Maybe now this is his opportunity. There’s a big difference between the Championship and the Premier League and I’ve seen guys have the most spectacular seasons in the Championship and you think, ‘wow they can do in the Premier League’.
“They come in and six months later they’re on the bench because they can’t sustain it and they can’t play in the Premier League.”
Hause can play in central defence or at left-back and is one of a string of defenders signed by Villa boss Dean Smith this summer. Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa have already joined and Reims centre half Bjorn Engels is close to agreeing a deal to move to Villa Park.
