Wolves striker Rafa Mir is a European champion.
The 22-year-old forward, who spent last season on loan at Las Palmas, was part of the Spain squad who beat Germany 2-1 in the final of the Under-21s European Championships at Stadio Friuili in Udine, Italy.
Mir was an unused substitute for Spain, who took the lead through Fabian Ruiz Pena’s seventh-minute strike then doubled their advantage through Dani Olmo on 69. Germany scored through Nadiem Amiri on 88 minutes.
Mir tweeted: “EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS !!! Proud to be part of this team !! We believed when it seemed impossible and we have achieved it. Thank you all for your support!” along with a photo of himself holding the trophy.”
Mir didn’t feature in the semi-final or the final Group A game against Poland, but came on in the 2-1 group win over Belgium and in the 3-1 opening defeat to hosts Italy.
The Murcia-born striker scored seven goals in 19 starts in a total of 30 Segunda Division appearances for Las Palmas last season, as the Canary Islands team finished 12th following relegation from La Liga.
Mir moved to Wolves from Valencia for a fee of around £2m in January 2018, when he made all of his four appearances in gold and black. Making his debut coming off the bench in the FA Cup third round 0-0 draw at home to Swansea, he played twice in the Championship as a substitute, against Barnsley and Nottingham Forest, and another start in the replay defeat against Swansea.
Mir’s Wolves team-mate and Spain international Jonny Castro Otto tweeted: “EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS! Congratulations for the title and the classification for the @juegosolimpicos!!
