Raul the hero for Mexico as MGW finally capped for U21s

Wolves striker Raul Jimenez was again at the forefront of a Mexico victory as he helped his country confirm top spot in CONCACAF Gold Cup Group A and a quarter-final spot.
The soon-to-be club record £32m signing scored the second goal and set up the winner as Mexico beat Martinique 3-2 at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina to secure their place in the last eight.
Jimenez restored Mexico’s lead in the 61st minute when he pounced on Rodolfo Pizzaro’s left-wing cross to slot home from close range.
Earlier, Mexico made the perfect start when Uriel Antuna broke the deadlock with a solo effort in the 29th minute.
Martinique got themselves back into the tie when Kevin Parsemain levelled in the 56th minute. Then Jimenez struck t put Mexico ahead, before turning provider to make it 3-1. He slotted in Fernando Navarro to beat the offside trap to finish calmly into the bottom left corner of the net to make it 3-1.
After a major contribution, Jimenez was substituted with 15 minutes left. Jordy Delem reduced the arrears to 3-2 with five minutes to go, but Mexico saw the game out to complete a 100 per cent record in their group games and earn a last-eight tie against the second-placed team in Group B in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Elsewhere, Morgan Gibbs-White finally got a piece of the action for England Under-21s after coming off the bench in the 3-3 draw against Croatia on Monday night. The 19-year-old midfielder replaced Leicester’s James Maddison for the final 17 minutes of the game with the scores level at 3-3.
Gibbs-White had again been an unused substitute as England lost 4-2 to Romania in the Under-21 European Championships in Italy which saw the Three Lions exit the competition.
Romain Saiss and Morocco got off to a winning start in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign. Saiss played the entire 90 minutes against Namibia in Egypt on Sunday, with his side winning 1-0 thanks to an 89th minute own goal.
The Atlas Lions now face the Ivory Coast on Friday (6pm).
