Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has been the shortlisted for the Manager of the Season award.
The Portuguese boss has earned his nomination after clinching seventh place in the Premier League, and is up against Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool) and Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino, with the winner being announced next Tuesday, May 14.
Nuno has led Wolves to huge success since taking over in May 2017. In his first season in charge he has taken the team to the Championship title and he has now led them the club to seventh place, their highest finish since 1979-80, when they were sixth, as well as an FA Cup semi-final.
Wolves, who have amassed 57 points with one game to go, at Liverpool on Sunday, are the highest placed promoted side since Ipswich finished fifth in 2000-01.
They have picked up 16 points against the top-six sides, beating Tottenham away, and Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United at home, while they have drawn against Manchester City at Molineux. On their travels they have drawn at Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Nuno has been nominated for three Manager of the Month awards this season in September – which he won – December and April, thanks to his team’s superb form throughout the campaign.
No Wolves manager has won the annual award before. As for Nuno’s competition, Guardiola has led City to the top of the Premier League and within a win of retaining the Premier League title, while they have also won the Carabao Cup and reached the FA Cup final and made the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Klopp has taken the title race to the last game of the season, and, against all the odds, led Liverpool into the Champions League final after beating Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate despite being 3-0 down after the first leg.
Pochettino has taken Spurs to the Champions League semi-final, which is the furthest they have been in the competition, against Ajax. They are 1-0 down, with the second leg in Amsterdam to come tomorrow night.
