Troy Deeney mocked Wolves top scorer Raul Jimenez as a ‘loser’ for donning the mask given to him after he scored.
Watford captain Deeney won and scored the penalty that forced extra-time either side of Gerard Deulofeu’s double that clinched their 3-2 win and a final against Manchester City next month.
Jimenez donned a wrestling mask given to him by fellow Mexican and WWE star Sin Cara after putting Wolves 2-0 up after 63 minutes at Wembley.
But Deeney and Watford had the last laugh and the former Walsall striker said: “I genuinely didn’t see that until just now.
“I’m glad he put that mask on. He can wear it out as well now he’s a loser. Enjoy the mask, but we got the victory.
Deeney says he missed the incident with the mask and would have been angry had he seen it.
“I didn’t see the mask thing, so I’m quite happy I only saw it now,” he added.
“I probably would have lost my head had I saw that. You’ve got to wear the mask and do all that stuff when you know you’re going to win the game.”
Deeney had strong words for Jimenez over his goal celebration but admits he is full of admiration for him as a player after he sealed his club record £32m permanent move to Molineux with his 16th goal of the season with a smart turn and volley following Matt Doherty’s opener.
“It was a good goal. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a top, top player,” said the Watford skipper.
“I watch him and I think he’s the ‘nuts’ – he’s very good. He plays the number nine position very well. It was a great finish.”
