Wolves U23s win to regain top spot – report

Wolves Under-23s 2 Stoke City Under-23s 1. Wolves Under-23s regained top spot in the Premier League 2 Division Two after weathering a Stoke storm at Molineux. Centre back Ed Francis grabbed the winner for Rob Edwards’s side five minutes from time, much to the delight of the excellent crowd of 2,934, but only after they had withstood heavy pressure from the Potters. Earlier fellow central defender Dion Sanderson had given Wolves a 14th-minute lead only for midfielder Daniel Jarvis to level on 25. Wolves made the better start and Elliot Watt wasn’t too far away with a long-range drive that…

Birthday boy: Wolves must stop the early gifts

Birthday boy Leander Dendoncker admits Wolves must stop giving away early gifts if they are to end the season on a high. Nathan Redmond scored for Southampton after just 94 seconds on Saturday as Wolves ended up losing 3-1 at St Mary’s. Redmond’s early setback was the third successive Premier League game Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have conceded in the first quarter after Conor Coady’s own goal at Burnley at Turf Moor and Scott McTominay’s strike for Manchester United. Dendoncker, who turned 24 today, confessed conceding early is costing Wolves dearly. “They got the first goal way too quickly and…

Gray: Wolves have rewritten the script for promoted clubs

Former Wolves winger Michael Gray believes Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have rewritten the expectations for promoted clubs and reckons his old club are only going to get better. Last season Wolves were in the Championship with Fulham, who have been relegated despite spending £100m, and Cardiff, who are five points adrift of the safety line and look like joining the Cottagers. “You look at some of the sides who have been promoted and their main priority is to finish fourth from bottom,” said Gray. “Wolves haven’t thought that way throughout the whole of the season. They have taken the game…

They will be joined by Fulham in entering the prestigious tournament for the first time as the event celebrates its 20th anniversary. Holders Newcastle, six-time champions Aston Villa, two-time winners Leicester City, last year’s runners-up Rangers as West Ham and Brighton & Hove Albion will also lead the British challenge from May 17-19. Wolves owners Fosun’s willingness to expand their brand into the…

Nuno’s message to Wolves kids for Stoke test

Nuno Espirito Santo has sent a good luck message to Wolves Under-23s as they continue their bid to win the Premier League 2 Division Two title tonight. Rob Edwards’s side will be backed by more than 2,000 fans at Molineux as Wolves take on Stoke City (7pm), but Nuno won’t be there as he is with the first-team squad in Marbella for a few days’ warm weather training. Wolves are third behind leaders Reading and Southampton but victory this evening will take them back to the top above the Royals on goal difference before Saints play Albion away on Thursday.…
