Wolves bag £127m Premier bounty for finishing seventh

Wolves have earned a £127m bounty in Premier League prize money for this season. The club have received record payments from the top flight after finishing seventh in their first campaign back among the elite for six years. Wolves received £127,165,114, which put them behind the top six and seventh-placed Everton, who received more (£128,603,905) because they were shown live on TV in the UK more times than Wolves (18 as opposed to 15). Wolves were actually only the 10th highest Premier League club featuring on live TV, behind the top six, Everton, 10th-placed West Ham with 16 and 13th-placed…

Wan looking to win for Wolves after signing

Wolves have snapped up promising British-Chinese midfielder Hong Wan on a two-year deal. The 18-year-old is set to join Rob Edwards’ successful Under-23s squad for the start of next season. Croydon-born Hong spent almost 10 years in Charlton Athletic’s academy  before switching to Yeovil when he was 16, helping The Glovers reach the club’s highest level of youth football, and captaining their Under-18s. Hong, who is of Chinese and Malaysian heritage, played development games for Luton Town towards the end of the season, but is now delighted to move to Wolves. “It’s a great opportunity and I’m very grateful to…

Ivan Cavaleiro has emerged as a target for relegated Fulham – as Wolves maintain hopes of landing Albion striker Salomon Rondon. Cavaleiro is understood to be frustrated at his lack of regular starts and could be looking at a Molineux exit this summer. Fulham have registered their interest in the 25-year-old forward. Leeds have also been linked with the twice-capped Portugal international for the second summer in a row, and reports have said the forward, who cost Wolves a then club record of £7m in August 2016, is available for £12m. Fulham look set to lose Aleksandar Mitrovic following their…

Wolves chasing Benfica’s £10m-rated Andre Almeida

Wolves are one of five Premier League clubs trying to sign £10m-rated Benfica right-back Andre Almeida. The 28-year-old Portugal international supplied an incredible 12 assists and two goals to help his team overcome Porto for the Primeira Liga title. Due to his relatively modest wages, Almeida, who is under contract for another two years, could be snapped up for £10m during the current transfer window. Almeida, who can also play in midfield, has made it clear he wants to test himself in the Premier League and is seeking a move this summer. Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and his…

Wolves need ‘four to six’ signings for top six and maintain Euro push – Stowell

Wolves favourite Mike Stowell believes his former club need four to six signings this summer to compete for a top-six place next season and sustain a Europa League push. Stowell, now Leicester’s long-term first-team coach and goalkeeper coach, claims Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been an ‘inspiration’ to finish seventh in their first season back in the Premier League. But the 54-year-old warned they cannot afford to stand still. Stowell has seen just what can be achieved by a Midlands club having been part of the Leicester staff as they won the Premier League in 2016 then reached the Champions…

Eves: Wolves believe they can be kings of Europe

Wolves’ last goalscorer in Europe reckons the club believe they can one day go all the way to Champions League glory. Mel Eves, whose goal gave Wolves a 1-0 win over PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Cup in October 1980, is convinced the team’s entry to the Europa League is just the start for his former club. Wolves qualified for the competition after Manchester City won the FA Cup by thrashing Watford 6-0 on Saturday, granting a place to the seventh-placed team in the Premier League as City are already in the Champions League from winning the title. Nuno Espirito…

Wolves have hinted they want to extend the contract of player of the year Joao Moutinho. Managing director Laurie Dalrymple believes the 32-year-old midfielder has many years left at the top and wants them to be at Molineux, where he has been an inspiration and got the fans’ vote this week. Moutinho has just over 12 months left on his contract having signed a two-year deal last summer when he arrived from Monaco. The 114-capped Portugal international has since been hailed as one of the bargains of the season after arriving for £5m, and Dalrymple says they want him to…

Wolves to keep small squad if they qualify for Europa League

Wolves will continue with a small squad if they qualify for the Europa League on Saturday – and look set to play their kids in Europe. Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad could face at least six extra matches should Manchester City beat Watford in the FA Cup final this weekend and grant the club European football for the first time in 39 years. They will start their Europa League campaign on July 25 – just six days after playing in the Premier League Asia Trophy in China. Wolves used just 19 players this season before the last-minute introduction of youngsters Will…

Parkes – I hope Coady breaks my Wolves record, but I doubt it!

Wolves favourite Phil Parkes hopes his appearance record goes to Conor Coady – but believes the Molineux captain will struggle to overtake his milestone. Coady is the only player in the country to have played every minute of every Premier League game in 2018-19. The 26-year-old sweeper has totted up an impressive 73 consecutive League outings in gold and black, and 65 in league and cup. Goalkeeper Parkes holds the record for consecutive appearances for the club with 171 in all competitions, and 123 in the League, set between September 1970 and September 1973. Coady therefore needs to play another…
